Oregon has one of the highest rates for suicide in the Nation.
Suicide a leading cause of death for adults and the 2nd leading cause of death for youths in Oregon.
80% of all firearm deaths in Oregon are suicides.
50% of youth suicides involve firearms which are nearly always from the youths home – most often belonging to a parent.
In Oregon firearms are used in more than 50% of all suicide deaths - that number goes up to 70% for our veteran community, and 80% for our rural communities.
Firearms are 90% lethal when used in a suicide attempt – a firearm is more lethal than all other means for suicide combined.
90% of people that survive a suicide attempt do not go on to die by suicide, so second chances matter – and they almost never come with firearms.
